As part of the Tourism Programme at Grigol Robakidze University, students from the courses Geography of Tourism, Cultural Tourism and Tourism Marketing took part in a field study in the Aspindza Municipality, Javakheti region.
During the trip, students visited several important sites, including the Vardzia rock-hewn monastery complex (12th–13th centuries), known for its beautiful frescoes and unique architecture, the Vani Caves and the Khertvisi Fortress (8th–16th centuries). They also explored Lake Paravani, the largest lake in Georgia, and Lake Sagamo, learning about the region’s tourism and recreational resources.
Through this field study, students gained a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural importance of these landmarks. They also got hands-on experience in planning educational field trips, organizing tourist tours, and developing thematic tour models.
The field study was led by Associate Professor Maka Piranashvili, with support from Associate Professor Erekle Ugrelidze and Tiko Robakidze, Assistant to the Dean of the School of Business and Management.
